Our journey to this point has been full of twists and turns. We started out working with hip-hop artists and bands on music videos and album artwork. That work evolved into promo campaigns for album releases and from there we started throwing monthly music shows on OSU campus.
Once we were fully immersed in the local music scene, we realized that Columbus was a city full of summer festivals, but none of them represented the culture of hip-hop as much as we felt that should. So after a few meet-ups over coffee with some experienced mentors, we grabbed a few friends and started a hip-hop festival.
Putting together an all day event at a motorcycle junkyard, with no experience, and a very small team, is a great way to learn first-hand what works and what doesn't. Fast-forward 5 years later and what started as a cool side-project is now a staple in the Ohio festival scene and attracts thousands of people from all over the Midwest to experience every element of hip-hop culture.
The 2x2 Hip-Hop Festival is what started it all for MATCHBOX LTD. Yes, we had put together lots of promo videos, passed out thousands of flyers, and stapled more posters on telephone poles than we could count before the festival, but 2x2Fest brought it all together and gave us a mission...to keep bringing communities together to enjoy awesome experiences. After years of working on everything from small gatherings in the corporate world to full blown music festivals, we discovered a gap in the way brands connect with their audience. We find the magic in creating events that bring value to the lives of the people attending and where there's an opportunity to create some content from the event that lives on through digital marketing campaigns.
